Cantú Informs on Several Key Issues in Pct. 2; "It would Cost $1 Million to fully Pave RV Road"
County Commissioner of Precinct 2 Rosy Cantú has been extremely busy attempting to solve the numerous problems that exist in her precinct, most of which may go back to previous administrations, the most prevalent being the much needed paving of streets such as Rosita Valley Road.
"I am working with the Road & Bridge Department right now and we have a new paving machine at our disposal which is very efficient in covering pot holes, however my budget is not enough to pave all the streets that need paving," said Maverick County's newest commissioner who recently appeared in the May edition of County Magazine, in reference to their meager $140,000.00 budget for this fiscal year which is not nearly enough to get any serious paving projects.
"An estimate to pave the 5.2 miles of Rosita Valley Road would be $1 million and we are looking for funding for this project which is a priority to me," she added, "I know that many people have asked me when or how are we going to fix our streets, and believe me, I know how they feel. I live on Winchester. My street is not paved either."
Although Commissioner Cantú faces a variety of obstacles, this comes as little consolation to the thousands of residents who struggle with the poor infrastructure and attempt to maneuver around the endless obstacles of pot holes in the roadways.
Another key project underway as we speak is the cleaning of the arroyos and canals which in the past have caused flooding in areas such as las Quintas and on the other side of El Indio Highway.
"We have the personnel from Road & Bridge cleaning our canals. We've seen a lot of progress in this respect to address the flooding issue when it rains.":
An area behind a propane gas company which had been covered up by a landowner and which impeded the flow of water has already been taken care of as well.
"We're also helping residents in La Herradura which is a place which always floods when we get heavy rains."
The commissioner said that they even widened that canal in order to help the flow of water.
The cleanup campaign was completed on Friday and Mrs. Cantú is thankful to the residents of Precinct 2 for assisting with this process which will help make Maverick County more presentable.
Pot holes and unpaved roads in the Rosita Valley Rd. area are a serious problem for the local families that traffic this area on a daily basis. Drivers must weave their way through an obstacle of pot holes to go in and out of this densely populated area which includes homes, schools and businesses.
