A special event will be held on September 15th and all the general public is invited to attend. The beauty pageant also served to elect the Miss Eagle Pass and Miss Maverick County queens. Mayor Ramsey English-Cantú crowned Lizzette Fernandez as Miss Eagle Pass while Miss Maverick Ciunty was Sarah Berlanga. In the category of 'Pequeñas Reinas', Stephania Garza was crowned Little Miss Eagle Pass and Kimberly Gonzalez was honored with the title of Little Miss Maverick County. Victoria Lynn Diaz was crowned 'Pequeña Reyna de las Fiestas de la Independencia de Mexico'. Both the Mexican Consulate and the Eagle Pass Parks & Recreation Department participated in organizing the coronations.

Sarah Marie Blanco was crowned 'Reina de las Fiestas de la Independencia de Mexico' in a ceremony held on Sunday at the Civic Center in Eagle Pass, where many girls under 18 years of age participated in activities leading to the coronation of this year's queen. Judges determined Blanco the winner and the crown was given by Consul Ricardo Santana. The young lady will participate in all activities relating to the Fiestas Patrias and 'El Grito de Independencia' which will be held here throughout the coming weeks.
