Two men were pulled over on a routine traffic stop on Highway 57 and after a preliminary search, a K-9 officer was summoned revealing a cache of undeclared US currency.
An officer assigned to the Eagle Pass Police Department Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Highway 57 with a white 2014 Dodge pickup towing a second vehicle on a trailer for a traffic violation.
Upon speaking with the driver and the owner of the vehicle, consent was obtained to search the vehicle. An Eagle Pass Police Department K-9 was deployed within the 2014 Dodge pickup which alerted to the center console are of the trick. A package was located concealed within the center console and retrieved by officers. Upon further investigation the package revealed to contain US currency.
The driver and the owner of the vehicle were detained for further investigation and the package upon being exposed was found to contain $48,000.00 in US currency. The driver identified as 34 year-old Sergio Daniel Cantú was presented before a magistrate and formally charged with money laundering and issued a $40,000.00 bond. This case continues under investigation.
