F.O.G. Golf Tournament a Great Success

    The team of Joe Venegas, Martin Amaya, Monico Suke and Rogelio Cordova of Eagle Pass won the recent Fishermen Of God Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday with a 63 stroke (-9).
    The golf tournament was organized by the F.O.G. who hold Catholic retreats for individuals and couples in and around South Texas as they do not have a retreat center of their own.
    The tournament raised a significant amount of funds that will go to the construction of said center.
    It was a brisk Saturday morning at the Eagle Pass Municipal Golf Course which allowed for difficult ball striking nevertheless Venegas' team was able to weather the storm and come away with the razor-sharp one-stroke victory.
    Second Place went to a combined team from both Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass of Roberto De La Cabada, Alex Garza, Jorge Gutierrez and Huicho Flores who shot a 64 (-8). 
Third place went to Arturo Guerrero, Jose Hernandez, Roberto Roiz and Sergio Mena of Crystal City who shot an impressive 65 (-7) but were tied with four other teams.  After all the tie-breakers were said and done, the team from our neighboring city of Crystal took home the hardware.
    Several contests were held for closest to the pin shots for $1,500.00 won by Carlos Martinez on Holes #1 and # 10 and Roberto de La Cabada on Holes #9 and #18, $1,000.00 won by Daniel Esqueda on Hole #8 and $500.00 prizes won by Raúl Figueroa on Holes #1 and #10 and Javier Herrera on Holes #9 and #18.
    De La  Cabada's shot on Hole 9 fell one foot, ten inches from the pin!
    No one won the Hole In One  Contest which was on hole #17 for a 2015 Chrysler 200.
A raffle was also held for golf bags, drivers, three woods, irons and cooking utensils donated by Academy Sports and Outdoors.
