Since becoming a new high school back in 2006, the C.C. Winn High School Band Program has enjoyed its good share of success over the past nine years. With the 2014-2015 school year coming to a close, the band program has again notched a very productive year with the accolades it has recently received. The Winn Band Program, which includes the band staff and students from Memorial Jr. High, returned from the annual UIL Concert & Sightreading competitions with 4 Sweepstakes Awards from every band sent to compete.
The bands include Memorial Jr. High(nonvarsity) directed by Mr. John Munoz, Memorial Jr. High(varsity) directed by Mr. Jorge Vargas, Winn HS(non-varsity) directed by Mr. Alejo Garza and Mr. Raul Perez, and the Winn HS(varsity) directed by Mr. Ruben Rodriguez and Mr. Roberto Rodriguez.
These results help round out a great year that our program has had at both the Jr. High and High School levels. In October, the marching band received its 9th consecutive 1st Division rating at UIL Marching Contest. Earlier this semester, 1Memorial Jr. High had 43 students qualify for their All Region Concert and Winn HS had 30 students qualify for their All Region Contest, with 13 advancing to the Area contest in Austin. Our program also consists of Mariachi, Winn Jazz Band and Winterguard, which help reinforce the foundation of what the program is built on.
The Mariachi has performed throughout the year at various local events but the highlight performance was at the Capitol in Austin earlier this year celebrating “Eagle Pass Day”.
The Winterguard earned a couple of 1st Place Awards at various competitons and 2nd Place Medals at the year end Championship. The jazz band received the Outstanding Performance Award at the Hill Country Jazz Festival at Texas State University in February and 2nd Place at the Longhorn Jazz Festival at the University of Texas at Austin in April.
Our band program has received a tremendous amount of support from our families, schools, and overall community for many years. We would like to thank everyone that has ever been involved in the Maverick Band Program and extend our gratitude to all who have helped us achieve the level of success that we have attained. We will continue to work hard for bigger and better success in the future!
