When Jose Luis Treviño went to bed on Thursday evening after seeing to it that his daughter who suffered multiple life-threatening injuries in a horrific automobile accident in December as well as his wife who suffered compound fractures to her leg was alright, the last thing he expected was to be awakened by a lightning bolt ripping through the roof and ceiling of his bedroom.
According to Eagle Pass Fire Department officials a lightning bolt struck the duplex at 415 Daisy Diaz Street at approximately 2:15 AM making a significant hole on the structure of the home, igniting a fire and causing the electricity of the home to exit through an electrical outlet in the front of the home while allowing the heavy rains of Friday to come into their bedroom essentially flooding the humble abode.
"My daughter said that the house lit up as if it were daylight after the impact caused a loud explosion," said Jose Luis Treviño, the patriarch of the family who told us of the horrible accident which nearly took his daughter's life in December, "My daughters woke up crying and screaming, we looked around to see that everyone was OK when our alarm went off and alerted the Housing Authority who came to evacuate us because our home was on fire."
The evacuation of family members was difficult due to the extent of the injuries sustained by three of the six family members including four year-old Jair who was thrown from the vehicle that cold December day and suffered serious head trauma and lacerations to his face and cranium. 13 year-old Wilson also suffered cracked ribs, a punctured lung and spinal cord damage.
"My daughter Marisol died in the crash, but I gave her CPR and thank God she came back to life, but she suffered the worst injuries of us all as she was rushed to the hospital where they operated on her where they had to repair blood vessels, treat her for broken hips and a separated shoulder."
Treviño informed The News Gram that the family has no insurance on the home as they are renting it at this time and authorities are working to set up a temporary bank account for the family in case citizens want to help this family in need.
