How much is Being Spent in the Fight Against the Coal Mines?

An Editorial

Several local politicians have told us that although they know that a coal mine in northern Maverick County would harm the environment and could cause future medical problems, but they are also aware that they are spending thousands of dollars on a fight that is a lost cause.  The State of Texas and the Railroad Commission have already given permission to mine in the area at the end of Thompson Road adjacent to Elm Creek.
In Mexico they are already building a railroad to transport the first order of over three million tons of coal to be shipped out on June 1, but this railroad will also be used to transport large quantities of beer from the giant and still growing Modelo Brewery in Nava.  Right now they are transporting freight train after freight train and more and more will continue to come in the future.
The question is how much money has been spent by the county, city, hospital and school district in this opposition to the Dos Republicas Coal Mining Partnership?
The downside is that the money is coming from tax payer funds that can be used in many more very much needed projects in our community.
