According to Mayor Cantú, no dates have been set for the beginning of construction, and although resources do exist to make this project a reality, it is only in its planning stages at this time. He also mentioned that the City has been in constant contact with Melissa Montemayor, Regional Directress of the Texas Department of Transportation, to iron out any details. He expects to meet with officials from Laredo this week to revise a plan so that together, they can make this dream become a reality. The project has been impulsed primarily by Maverick County, however the City also has approved the job as well as several other local entities such as the Chamber of Commerce who believes such a road would benefit the local economy immensely as well as the amount of visitors it can bring to our community. According to officials, the road could be approximately 60 miles long from the outskirts of El Indio to Laredo. As of now, Mayor Cantú says that he is not aware of any resources being allocated for this project at this time. He added that the project would have to be funded by the City of Eagle Pass, Maverick County as well as Laredo and Webb County. It has not been determined how much money these three entities would be able to contribute to said project. County Commissioner Rudy Heredia has been said to have been working diligently working to see this project come to fruition.
