Serna noted that after the capture of Medrano on Monday March 2nd in our neighboring city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Medrano was transferred to the Tom Bowles Detention Center.
Medrano, 48 years old, is a native of San Angelo, Texas, but was convicted here in Maverick County for the crime of aggravated sexual assault in 2011.
He apparently was convicted and sentenced, but he left the court house unexpectedly and fled to Piedras Negras where he has since been fleeing from justice before he was captured Monday.
"Medrano's capture proves that the system of justice is working well," stated DA Serna, "Together with state and federal agencies as well as with those of our neighboring country of Mexico, people convicted of these crimes will be brought to justice. He had been sentenced to 55 years and now will be facing additional charges of failing to appear and the possibility of facing more prison time."
