Jeanette Edwards of the Maverick County Soil Conservation District informed The News Gram of the fact that their 2015 Ag Day was a complete success as the organization and their presenters conveyed very important information and continuing education for those who attended.

"The event came out absolutely fabulous!  The speakers were right on target with what farmers and ranchers need to know," stated Mrs. Edwards who said at least 70 local agriculture related individuals were in attendance throughout the day long seminar, "Some came from as far as Carrizo Springs, Brackett, Uvalde and other surrounding areas."

Edwards said that the final presentation on herbicides especially in relation to mesquite and wisaches was especially informative, "Dr. Lyons basically presented ways to get rid of these two types of trees which are very prevalent in our fields."

She also informed us that a very special sale is scheduled to take place soon, but she needs us to get the word out to the owners of ranches, farms and 'ranchitos' to take advantage of this sale in order to restock their ponds and lakes.

"At these sales farmers and ranchers come to purchase fish to restock their tanks with minnows, catfish, perch, bass and other species as well, " she concluded and also mentioned that the last sale they had over 35 came by to order, "But we can't have a sale if we don't have enough orders so spread the word!"
