Mary Velasquez, City Secretary, informed The News gram that the issue has been presented to City Council, and if approved, the process to request these funds will be initiated. Years ago, $100 million were acquired which were utilized to build the existing Robert Gonzalez Eagle Pass Water Treatment Plant. The existing Water Board has mentioned the need to install a new pipeline system downtown as the existing lines are somewhat obsolete and newer more durable and practical materials are now available. The eagle Pass Water System had been planning on changing out this pipeline before the Eagle Pass Public Works department began paving our city streets downtown, however the funds were not available at the time. Public Works, under the coordination of Hector Chavez, recently completed the reconstruction of several streets downtown which were in need of tending to, but unfortunately, should the funding be allocated for new pipelines, these streets will have to be re-opened. If this is so, it is hoped that these two entities can work together for the betterment of downtown Eagle Pass.
