According to sources, a complaint against State Representative Poncho Nevarez has been filed with the Texas Ethics Commission.

The complainant alleges that Nevarez violated several laws pertainig to political contributions some of which include accepting contributions from corporations and labor organizations, which is prohibited, not properly disclosing campaign finance reports as well as converting political funds to personal use.

In addition the complaint alleges that Nevarez did not  properly disclose on the January 2014 semiannual report the acceptance of a contribution from an out of state political committee, which the Texas Ethics Commission discounts stating that the referenced out of state political committee is indeed from Texas and therefore would have no bearings on the official complaint.

The notice of complaint from James Tinley, Assistant General Counsel for the Texas Ethics Commission addressed to an individual by the name of Jim Doyle of Conroe, specifically states that this complaint "does not constitute any findings regarding the allegations made in the complaint" which say that Nevarez accepted political contributions which were not properly disclosed on finance reports.

"We have to report what we have raised or didn't raise and if any one of those does not have an address, they can file a complaint," said Obie Salinas, Nevarez' Chief of Staff, who says this is an in direct backlash from the scandal which has received national notoriety after Open Carry activists attacked Nevarez in front of friends, family and staff on the day of his most recent swearing in after Nevarez simply answered a question on whether or not he would vote for HB 195 which would basically allow anyone to carry a firearm with or without a license.

"This accusation came to us and we must respond to it within 25 days, which we are working on at this time.  In no way does it mean that he is guilty of any improprieties it is simply a form of political retaliation."
