In a phone interview from the state capital, Maverick County Legal Counsel Alfonso Nevarez weighed in on the pressing issue of the subsequent ousting and replacement of Southwestern Capital Marketing as the official financial advisors for Maverick County.
"Both SCM and the auditor are incorrect about money that is owed to Maverick County," Nevarez said, "SCM might owe the county $10 to $15 thousand, but $192,000.00 is incorrect and then past that, we wouldn't like to comment further."
Nevarez says that Maverick County actually stopped paying Robert G. Rodriguez their monthly retainer for about a year, "But based on nuances regarding what happened when, we can't comment on that at this time."

In an E-mail dated Monday, January 12, Rodriguez cited various inconsistencies in the Maverick County Auditor's office which have been "encouraging" his firm Southwestern Capitol Marketing, "to resign".
"Our firm's extensive work in 2012 occurred during the time when the previous County Auditor left and we were assisting the Judge, Treasurer and Auditor's Office on a daily basis to avoid a financial collapse."
"Individuals at the County must have also not been aware there were actual payments being made to us for almost a year," the E-mail goes on to read, stating that according to Rodriguez, "our firm was to blame for providing services and expecting payment for the last 7 months of this time when the County desperately needed our help but did not have funds to pay us from March 2012-September 2012 though Mr. Ortiz (the County Auditor) "cannot produce a single piece of correspondence notifying us that we were working for free all that time".    "If the County no longer wants our firm's services we ask that Commissioner's Court terminate our duties as Financial Advisor to the County by providing our firm with the required advance notice.  If the County on the other hand still wants our services, then we ask that this be resolved immediately."
