As the morning announcements happened on Tuesday at CC Winn High School, the young lady asked the student body to join her in a moment of silence for their classmate Lorenzo Alexander Menera who was found dead on Friday in Piedras Negras.
The student body and staff at the school were asked to wear blue in solidarity to their fallen student, a CC Winn sophomore who friends said was a good person who was never looking for trouble. Counselors at Winn have addressed this issue with several students who were acquaintances of Lorenzo's, even talking to his classmates in their rooms providing counseling in its truest form.
The memorial tribute comes in the wake of reports of his apparent disappearance after being sent on an errand on Wednesday evening. The young boy's body was found on Friday lying on the side of the road between Piedras Negras and Acuña in an area known as El Moral. Students could be seen wearing differentiating shades of blue on Tuesday and a heightened sense of police presence and security was also evident as officers assisted and monitored the transition of students between the Frank Chisum Regional Technical Center and CC Winn's main campus and EPISD police units circled the school as well.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent of Schools, Gilberto Gonzalez, released the following statement today regarding the death of CC Winn High School student, Alexander Menera:
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of one of our students. We extend our deepest condolences to his family. The district is providing counseling and other support to the C.C. Winn community during this difficult time."
