"The issue of security is very specific so we're are taking many approaches to addressing this issue in Coahuila and Mexico and I know that they are doing some very effective things on this side of the border as well, but i feel that if we communicate, and if we are coordinated, we can produce some very positive results on both sides of our borders. I also wanted to come and express my gratitude to the services they provide for us as well in this joint effort to secure our border."
Purón also invites local law enforcement agencies to participate in their structural and organizational meetings with their top brass officials in law enforcement.
"We need to share information, for example if we know that drugs are being warehoused in what is called an 'ejido' along the border which are destined for transport, or if we discover drugs buried in the ground, we can alert American authorities as to their existence and we can let them know what routes they're using to transport."
When we changed the subject to the 23,000 repatriated aliens, he said that the population of Eagle Pass is 27,000. Imagine this many people who become a crime issue quickly coming into your city all at once.
"Many of these people who have nothing to lose fall into the hands of organized crime and then they do us harm, but we need to keep insisting that these numbers continue to diminish like they did in 2014 to 7,400, which in and of itself is a breath of fresh air."

The Eagle Pass News Gram was fortunate enough to meet with Piedras Negras Mayor Fernando Purón Johnston who graciously and efficiently addressed the importance of the Border Sheriffs Coalition meeting he accepted an invitation to, informing Texas lawmen of the seriousness of the present situation that faces both nations, the illegal drug trade, the security of or borders and the rampant repatriation of undocumented aliens from the US into Mexico.
"Mainly I wanted to give the sheriffs some details of what we are doing on our part to address these issues in relation to security. Obviously, we are also here to lay a bridge of communication with these authorities in order to work together, because when decisions are made at the state and national level, there are instances where they are not as successful and what we want is for government to take into account the advice of municipalities and agencies along the border when making decisions," said our neighbor's leader.
