Newly elected County Commissioner Rosy Cantú spent her first day on the job both swit- ching offices with Justice of the Peace Dora Madera and overseeing two very important projects, the repair of Old Pioneer Road and the cleaning of the aqueducts in and around El Indio Highway, Memo Robinson Road and Las Brisas.
“I’m very happy to be here and I want to thank the voters of Precinct 2 who had the confidence in me to do this job and I want to let all the residents know that we
will be working daily for the benefit of the citizens of Maverick County,” stated Mrs. Cantú from behind her desk on Ruela Street in Pueblo Nuevo, “We are busy cleaning the canals in and around Memo Robinson and El Indio and we ask the residents to help us keep these areas clean. We’ve seen tires, mattresses and other plastics in the area which is bad for the environment and it does not allow the flow of water.” The commissioner was excited about attending her first Commissioner’s Court meeting, reviewing her budget and thinking about going early to request her copies of attachments she wants to look over before that afternoon’s Regular Meeting. Cantú says she will be working closely with Ernesto Guevara, Road & Bridge Superintendent to see how they can use existing equipment and manpower to achie- ve some of the most important projects such as the repair and maintenance of important streets such as Rosit Valley Road. “Rosita Valley Road is definitely a priority and will be for the beginning of my term as commissioner. It needs a lot of work and we need to go and measure that stretch of road to determine how much it would cost to repair.”
