The Pre-Trial hearing in the case of Homero Herrera who is accused of the stabbing death of his wife Blanca Herrera in October of 2013 was held in the 293rd District Court before The Honorable Cynthia Muñiz.
Legal counsel for the defendant Greg Torres deliberated for about thirty minutes with both District Attorney Roberto Serna and Assistant DA Robert Little about setting a date to hear the case, but Torres stated that after interviewing his client, he is concerned for the competency and mental state of Herrera and called for an expert assistant to evaluate the defendant.
Judge Muñiz granted counsel permission to look into said expert and the case is scheduled for review on January 16th.
Torres also requested the use of an interpreter as Herrera predominantly speaks Spanish which was also granted.
The District Attorney informed Judge Muñiz that the State is prepared to try the case and would like a date as soon as possible.
February of last year, legal counsel for Herrera changed from Alberto Ramon to Greg Torres who says he has over 300 pages of medical information which he needs to review in order to be ready to defend his client.
