EP Frosh Take Melba Rivera Tournament

The Eagle Pass High School Freshman Basketball Team, under the watchful eye of Coach Juan Garza, won the 2014 Melba Rivera Basketball Tournament this past weekend.

The tournament was bro- ken up into two pools to begin the competition.

Pool A were: Eagles 9th, CC Winn White and Uvalde.

Pool B included: Crystal City, CC Winn Black and La Pryor JV.

In the opening games in Pool A, it was Eagles Orange 73, CC Winn White 10; CC Winn White fell to Uvalde 57-14; and Uvalde lost to Eagles 9th 63-45.

In Pool B play, it was CC Winn Black 44 La Pryor JV 36; La Pryor JV defeated Crystal City 46-43; and Crystal City lost to CC Winn Black 72-26.

The Semi Final Games were next where Uvalde lost to CC Winn Black and Crystal City was defeated by Eagles 9th, the two undefeated teams CC Winn Black and Eagles 9th played in the championship with the Eagles coming out on top 79 to 38.

Leading Scorers for Championship Game were: Ricardo De Luna (8 Pts), Armando Villegas (9 pts), Cal Roman (10 pts), Jesus Ruiz (16 pts), Ismael Sanchez (22 pts).

Leading Scorers for CC Winn in the Championship Game were #1 Baby Joe Rodriguez (11pts) and #20 Juan Castilla (10 pts).

 

All Tourney honors went to CC Winn's Juan Castilla and the MVP was awarded to Ismael Sanchez of Eagles 9th. Uvalde's Michael Mata and Crystal City's Austin Sanchez were also awarded All Tourney honors.
