The Eagle Pass Police Department has received at least six reports of theft of merchandise from couriers by people who allege that goods they had ordered had been taken from their homes and were delivered by the United Parcel Service (UPS) courier company.
In what has been a short one week of the holiday season which has just begun, the Police Department Eagle Pass has received six reports of theft of merchandise from couriers.
Sgt. Orlando Escareño informed The News Gram that they are aware that people in the community are taking advantage of online sales this holiday season and some very clever criminals are finding ways to steal merchandise ordered via Internet or by phone as UPS leaves packages at the doors of these homes.
Escareño added that a home video at one of the victim's homes shows an individual driving a black truck stopping to pick up a package left on their porch and driving away.
The sergeant advises local citizens who are expecting a package and who may not be home, to ask a neighbor or relative to help them by picking up their package upon arrival in order to prevent theft.
This situation remains under investigation by the Eagle Pass Police Department as all attempts will be made to identify these thieves in order to make an arrest.
