John Cornyn will continue as US Senator for the State of Texas getting 1,284 votes to David Alameel's 3,479. George P. Bush will be our Land Commissioner garnering 1,483 votes in Maverick County to John Cook's 3,392, but winning in a virtual landslide across the state.
In the race for EPISD School Board Place 1, Mashyell Calderon (with 575 votes) took just enough votes to allow Humberto Torralba to edge incumbent Benjamin Rodriguez 2,175 to 2,086 winning a three year term on the Board of Trustees.
In another race that was too close to call as votes came in from the various polling places, Rudy Bowles defeated incumbent Ramon Ramirez 2,915 to 2,102 for Place 3 on the board in a race where voters were divided in the promise of Bowles' experience with reference to Ramirez' record as a member of the board over the last two terms. The race for Maverick County Judge also proved to be interesting as David Saucedo won his bid for re-election by a significant margin, however, Jose Reyna was able to garner 1,944 to Saucedo's 3,631. Thus, Judge Saucedo who is working to keep the county ship afloat as chief budget officer of Maverick County going forward for four more years.
Joaquin Rodriguez and Dr. Ronald Hixson won their bids to serve on the Maverick County Hospital District while Hilda Martinez-Caballero and Lupita Fuentes will continue serving on the school board as they ran unopposed. In the county government Gerardo Morales was unopposed in his race for commissioner of Precinct 1, Roberto Ruiz was unopposed in Precinct 4, Leopoldo Vielma was unopposed in his race for District Clerk, Rito Valdez may have not thrown his hat in for the MCHD, but he was unopposed for the position of County Treasurer, Kina Mancha, Dora Madera, David Castañeda, Jeannie Smith and Tere Melendrez all ran unopposed for their positions as Justices of the Peace in Precincts 1,2,3 A&B, 3C and 4 respectively.
According to Mariana Flores of the Maverick County Elections Office, a total of 5,805 voters out of 28,990 registered voters, only 20.002% of the total voters in Maverick County showed up to vote in this election.
