Accident on 277 has now claimed three lives

Maverick County Sheriff's units responded to a motor vehicle accident on highway 277 East by mile marker 616 on Tuesday,October 28th, at approximately 12:10 PM. Upon arrival, deputies observed two tractor trailers and two vehicles involved in an accident near the road construction area. EMS crews were quickly summoned to the scene where the jaws of life were required in order to extract a female from a white van. The female was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.  The driver of the second vehicle, a white pickup, was pronounced deceased at the scene, while his passenger was airlifted to San Antonio, Texas were he would later succumb to injuries. The drivers of the semi trailers were treated and released at the scene.

64 year old James Douglas Givens and 41 year-old Melissa Treviño are the two identified motorists who are confirmed casualties of this tragic accident.  Johnny Brown, 69, also died later as a result of his injuries as he was a passenger in Unit 3 a Ford F-150 Pickup.  Treviño was driving a 2012 Ford E-350 van which was Unit 2 which was right behind Unit 1, a tractor trailer driven by Mark David Patrick, 53.  Mr. Patrick was uninjured.  Unit 4 another tractor trailer was being driven by Santiel Polanco, 46.  Mr. Polanco was also uninjured.

The accident continues under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
