Maverick County Lake

It seems as though the irrigation canal crisis may have had an effect on Maverick County Lake as our most popular parks is in danger of drying up due to a lack of a water source.  The reason behind this new crisis is that the pump that provides water to the lake from the canal has malfunctioned. Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado informed The News Gram that said pump is indeed not functioning and may have been damaged for several weeks as the lakes water levels have been going down and now they have determined why.

Maldonado stated that they have been working on remedying the situation to benefit the people who frequent the park and wish to see it in optimal conditions.  He added that they must repair the damaged pump or they may have to purchase a new one which would cost the County somewhere near $12,000.00. He has looked into several different scenarios as to where the funds could be found within the budget, however, the lake's water levels are going down everyday and his priority is for the lake to be back to normal level. He also stated that due to budgetary cuts, they have had to close down the Splash Pad which was very popular with visitors, as they have no funds to pay anyone to supervise the new water fun park facility. He says it is only available for private parties or special events.
