The CC Winn Mavericks defense was on the field for a significant amount of Friday's game versus District 29-AAAAA rival the San Antonio Southside Cardinals where the visiting team ate up time and effort to sustain drives even on third and long situations time and time again.

Cardinal signal caller Johnny Treviño executed their inside trap offense to a "T" and the Cardinals took a 27-0 lead into the final stages of the game.

Maverick QB Juan Elizondo broke off a 30 yard run followed by a Deion Alonso 20 yard gain of his own.  The Cardinal defense who had good size and decent speed, but were focused on #20 knowing that Alonso is Winn's major open field threat.

Elizondo found the endzone late in the game and Dante Valdez absolutely drilled the PAT to make the final score Southside 34, CC Winn 7.

The Mavericks face Medina Valley Friday, October 3rd at Panther Stadium in Castroville.  Kickoff is set for 7:30.
