A festive event attended by hundreds was held at la Guadalupana Adult Day Care on Tuesday as our Mexican Consulate Ismael Naveja Macias graced the event with his presence adding an official touch of authenticity to the celebration honoring the independence of our neighboring country.

"We are about to replicate a ceremony that took place 204 years ago in the town of Dolores in the state of Hidalgo, Guanajuato.  it was here that the people in unison gave the first 'grito' for the independence of Mexico.  It was a cry to gain our independence from Spain because we wanted to be a free and independent country.  But this independence didn't come overnight.  Eleven years had to pass, eleven years of battle, bitter, painful years so that in 1921, Mexico would gain that independence marking the significance of this date."

Awards were given to three of the clients of the day care who dressed in festive garb.  Conchita Gonzalez took first place with her amazing handcrafted Mexican dress.  Lupita Gutierrez won second place with an equally stunning dress of her own and Hortencia Miranda came in third.
