The Democratic candidate for US Senate, David Alameel was in Eagle Pass on Wednesday. The Eagle Pass News Gram caught up with the candidate and we got his impressions on how the campaign was coming thus far as he is in a heated race with incumbent John Cornyn.

"The campaign is going very well. We started in South Texas in the Valley, we've been here several times before and we're very excited to be here to meet the people of Eagle Pass especially our friends here who help us so much in spreading our message."

When asked about the proverbial 'Sleeping Giant, the growing faction of Hispanic voters in our nation who simply need to get up and get out to have our collective voices heard, Dr. Alameel had the following to say, "That's why we're here.  We believe in South Texas and the Valley which has the greatest potential of dormant voters.  Our mission is to explain to them and encourage them to vote.  They have a lot of power.  They can change Texas and if they vote the way their potential shows, they can change the face of Texas."

When mentioned the fact that Robert Ruiz had said that Democrats need to have a voice in Texas, Alameel had the following to add:

"Not only Democrats, but all our people need to have a voice in the state and they need to have a voice in Washington.  Governments both federal and state are not really working for the people of this country.  They're pretty much preoccupied with their own careers in Austin and they're ignoring South Texas and the Valley's need for good schools, infrastructure, development.  Thank God for the oil industry that has provided some jobs and opportunities here.  We want them to have jobs, industrial jobs, manufacturing jobs, engineering jobs, jobs in science.  We want them to have their own empowerment.  To be a part of Texas, a part of America."

On energy reform:

"It's a big boost for our country.  It's not enough just to invest in Mexico, we should invest right here in America to increase our oil and gas production.  We need to become totally energy independent.  We need to also become a big exporter of oil and gas.
