"Today we are holding our District 29-AAAAA Executive Committee meeting between all eight schools representing the district at CC Winn," stated the instructional leader of Winn High Jesús Díaz-Wever, "We have about 3-4 meetings a year and this is the first."
"Among the eight schools that make up this district, it is a way of presenting a kind of camaraderie with the principals who we are going to compete against this year. This is the third time I have chaired this committee since I have been principal at CC Winn."
"We've got a new setup this year in the school district as Eagle Pass will be in District 29-AAAAAA and CC Winn will be in 29-AAAAA," said Athletic Director Edward Graf, "It's a different configuration so I think it's going to be good for all the kids in our district."
When asked about the competition in the new district, Graf had the following to add, "You look at Uvalde and Medina Valley and some of those schools and last year Laredo Martin made the playoffs for the first time in the school's history, so it's going to be a very competitive district, but CC Winn High School has come a long way and Coach (Eric) Villaseñor's got these kids and a great coaching staff and I expect them to be competing at the top of the district."
"There's always excitement at the beginning of the school year but this year's a little bit more exciting as CC Winn is part of a new district," stated Gilbert Gonzalez, EPISD Superintendent, "I'm proud that Mr. Diaz was elected chairman of this district. He always makes good decisions and good recommendations."
When asked about the fact that this meeting is not only for atletics, but for UIL academics and One-Act Play, Gonzalez commented, "I feel that in the EPISD we balance out in athletics and academics. We have a beautiful Fine Arts Center and we like to use it whenever we can and we're looking forward to the schools coming down and seeing our top-notch facility."
