Department of Justice informs of latest dates of MC indictments

Daryl Fields, Public Affairs Officer for the United States Attorney's Office Western District of Texas informed The News Gram of the myriad of sentencing hearings which are upcoming in the cases stem- ming from the extensive investigations which have come out of Eagle Pass and Maverick County.

First of all, Fields mentioned that many times these cases get pushed for- ward for many reasons, however he did inform The News Gram of the latest in these cases such as the impending sentencing of Hector Chavez on August 13th and Saul Lombraña on the 14th. That of former County Commissioner Cesar Flores whose sentencing has been pushed forward to February 23rd has also been rescheduled again.

In reference to former Precinct 1 Foreman Jaime Flores, sentencing will be on February 24th in relation to the charges before him of wire fraud and one count of theft concern- ing programs receiving federal funds when signing for a forklift allegedly purchased from Jose Rodriguez' company Capitol Construction. Rodriguez is set for sentencing on November 4th.

Jose Aguilar who is accused of four counts including money laundering, conspiracy to smuggle cash into the United States as well as aiding and abetting was sentenced to 14 months. 

Eduardo De La Garza is set for sentencing on November 13th, Alejandra Garcia, the former County Auditor's office employee will be sentenced November 12th, Jose Telles, Jr. is set for sentencing on February 2nd and former County Commissioner Rudy Heredia is set to appear before Moses for a status hearing on November 12th.

Marcelo Alvarez will be sentenced on October 1st for paying a bribe to an agent of an organization receiving federal funds. 

Jose Flores III will be sentenced on September 2nd for bank fraud, fraud by wire, radio or television.

Eduardo Rodriguez who was an intermediary between the county and contractors and would tell contractors how much to bid followed by the delivery of bribes to commissioners will be sentenced on November 13th.

German Garcia Cano will have a trial by jury on October 21st and docket call will be on September 9th. 

Salvador Castillon is scheduled for sentencing on October 27th. Castillon was awarded Maverick County construction con- tracts totaling $416,800 in 2010 and $148,000 in 2011. The indictment alleges that in exchange for each Maverick County construction contract he was award- ed, Castillon agreed to pay a Maverick County commissioner between $3,000 and $5,000.

Upon conviction, Castillon faces up to ten years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine per count.

Javier Gonzalez, who has plead guilty to at least one count of wire fraud and/or paying a bribe to an agent of an organization receiving federal funds, will appear before Judge Moses for sentencing on December 2nd.

Finally, former County commissioner of Precinct 1 Eliaz Maldonado will be sentenced on January 17th.

The only individual who remains at large is Alejandro Wheeler. All of these cases will come to a close before The Honorable Alia Moses, US Judge Western District of Texas.
