The Children's Hospital of San Antonio and Kohl’s teamed up for a very important event which is held here annually thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the store who give of their time to assist in benevolent endeavors such as this which do not only provide free immunizations for children of Eagle Pass who need them before they register for school, but also help the Children's Hospital by providing funds for the organization from Kohl’s and from the sale of children's literature books sold there.

"We've been in partnership with Koh’ls since 2003 and our partnership has brought us to Eagle Pass for immunizations," said Carmelita Cedillo who is the liaison between The Children's Hospital and Koh’ls, "The children are screened before they're seen, so if anyone has any questions whether they have insurance or not, these people are here to help them."

"Right now we have a lot of eleven year olds who are lacking their meningitis, especially those going off to college," stated Lisa Cerda who has been in Eagle Pass before and who along with Manuel Gonzalez, Adriana Elizalde, Maria Zebouni, Mary Martinez among others who were on hand to assist in one way or another, "We have all those four year olds who are getting ready to start school and the five year-olds that are going into Pre-K and kindergarten that still need their vaccines, but pretty much we have birth all the way up to the age of 18, everything that the children need to get into school and we also have the recommended vaccines as well."

She added that vaccines are the same here as they are across the state and are what Cerda termed 'Universal'.  They have gone to Poteet, New Braunfels, Jourdanton where they see up to 60 to 70 vaccines a day and can administer up to nine if needed.

"This is very helpful because it gives us the opportunity to get our children's immunizations which are very expensive these days," said Martha Mireles, one of the parents who were here getting her children's' immunizations, "It is very important because if they do not have their immunizations, they cannot register for school.  We are very thankful for these people who come from San Antonio to provide us with this help."

"We've had several people sign up.  We've had more than 20 kids sign up here today who called in and we're still taking walk-ins," stated Pat Perez, the manager of Kohl’s who informed us of the fact that all the proceeds of the sale of children's books go directly to the Children's Hospital of San Antonio and those funds were used to purchase this wonderful mobile unit you see here today, "This mobile unit has gone to different Khol's stores across South Texas and we are very proud to partner with them for this initiative."

Perez also informed us that her staff of Joey Gonzalez, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Alondra Martinez and Aracely De La Garza were all their to volunteer their time to assist.

"These employees are giving of their time for the benefit of the Children's Hospital, "I would invite any non-profit organization to do the same we are Associates in Action who volunteer our time and for this, the company donates $500 to The Children's Hospital."
