With Mayweather surrounded by his bodyguards and entourage and Maidana flanked by his trainers, Maidana, with two closed fists pushed Mayweather back initiating a scuffle which brought the crowd of 5,000 to their feet prompting his giant 7 foot, 400 Lb. bodyguard to come between the two fighters, but not before Mayweather could push back.
"I'm not afraid of him," stated Maidana who many feel made enough contact in their first meeting to merit the dethroning of arguably the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, "I will fight the same fight that I fought last time, but this time I WILL knock him out. I believe I won the first fight, now I will finish the job, but with the fight being in Las Vegas I will have to knock him out."
Mayweather countered by attacking Maidana's trainer, former IBF Featherweight World Champion Robert Garcia, who earlier said he could never come up to him and face him man to man without his bodyguards, "Look up Robert Garcia vs Diego Corrales. Garcia lost to Corrales. What Garcia started, I finished. Maybe I can beat Maidana first then his trainer on September 13th, but I would expect another payday!"
Maidana's camp stated that they love San Antonio, the city where he defeated Adrien Broner in a stunning unanimous decision at the Alamodome, and would have loved to hold this fight there which would have been ideal for Leija-Battah Promotions, who along with Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and Showtime are one of the organizers of this event.
The promotional tour went to only four cities in the country, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Antonio.
Despite the brutal nature of their first meeting, Mayweather has chosen to give Maidana a chance to redeem himself and earn a victory against the undefeated cahmpion by facing him again in the storied MGM Grand Garden Arena. This exciting rematch will serve to test the skill and will of both men and finish what was started last May.
"The rematch with Mayweather is the only fight that really motivates me," said Maidana. "I feel I earned it in the ring and Floyd owed it to me. I've already proved that I don't care if the man I have in front of me is the best pound-for-pound champion. I was close to ending his reign last time. On September 13 he will not get away undefeated."
