The Eagle Pass Independent School District is making the final preparations for the move back to the Language Development Center from the former building that housed Austin Elementary.

The school's operations were moved from its original location on Veteran's Boulevard to Austin when it was detected that mold which grew as a result of the flooding of June 2013 affected the buildings walls and posed a health risk to all students, staff and faculty.

A firm by the name of Action Restoration had the task of returning the EPISD's Language Development Center to its original state.  Their task of covering the interior of the facility in plastic in order to begin the cleanup process of the school which was moved to Austin Elementary was a long and meticulous process that forced the school to remain there for the duration of the 2013-2014 school year now seems to have been completed.

We spoke to Board President Ignacio Saucedo who informed The News Gram of the progress of this very important process, ""We anticipate will be ready by the beginning of the next school year, but completion of the cleanup process is just around the corner."

Saucedo informed us that although he does not have a ballpark figure as to how much was spent on the refurbishing, it was a project that was completed in phases with mold removal being Phase I and the replacing of 4 feet of sheetrock off of the ground around practically the entire building being Phase II.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience, it was a bit of a headache at the beginning.  I also want to thank our teachers for their perseverance, we definitely wanted to prevent having any other issues."

He concluded that they are planning to have an Open House before the school year to show the public that the building is indeed ready to be occupied in a similar manner as they held one when both Rosita Valley and Rosita Valley Literacy Academy were unveiled to the public following the devastating tornado of April 2007.
