"On the 25th, we were notified by another law enforcement agency about some information they provided to them, that information was relayed to the Eagle Pass Police Department," stated Chief Guajardo, "Our K-9 officers along with our criminal investigations division and to include our personnel assigned to the Drug Enforcement Agency, that information along with a warrant signed by a judge, we carried out that said warrant to the location within our community. Upon carrying out the warrant, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Eagle Pass Police Department came upon a sizable amount of bundles in open view that were later determined to be marijuana."
Officers entered the apartment and discovered it to be free of any persons.
Upon gathering and weighing the large bundles of narcotics it was revealed to be one of the largest seizures of marijuana by the Eagle Pass Police Department. Over one ton (2,281 Lbs.) of marijuana was seized.
A grant was approved at Tuesday's City Council meeting which will provide the department with over $300,000.00 to be put to use for work coordinated with DEA in Eagle Pass which is considered a High Intensity Drug-Traffic Area (HIDA). These funds are put to use in multi-departmental task forces such as the one put into action on June 25th.
The case is currently under investigation by the Eagle Pass Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
