Rotarian and City Councilman Billy Davis welcomed a gathering of City employees, Rotarians and the press to what he termed a momentous day which holds true to what the motto of the Rotary Club, "Is it the truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships and will it be beneficial to all concerned?". Davis made note of the fact that ever since he was the president of the club, he had intended on utilizing the funds garnered from the Cinco de Mayo Festival to create such projects as this, for children to create memories and places for them to gather in healthy play. The Honorable Ramsey English-Cantú, Mayor of Eagle Pass was also on hand and he thanked the club for their commitment to the betterment of our fair city as they try to establish partnerships with organizations such as this one to see projects such as this come to fruition. "Our young citizens will be benefitting from this park and exercising at the same time developing their minds and bodies," he added, "I remember the old dome-type jungle gym adjacent to the Multi-Purpose Center which created fond memories for me as a child, and I know this park will do the same." Davis eloquently thanked Sandra Ruiz-Rodriguez, the Rhodes family, Claudia Wright, Mary Velasquez, the Parks and Recreation Department for the great shape all of our parks our in and he also mentioned that we have the most parks per capita in the state. He also thanked Joe Ornelas from the office of Tracy O. King, Sandra Martinez, Gloria Barrientos, Jorge Sanchez, Rosy Aguirre and the members of the media for covering such a positive event such as this.
