Alleged murderer Homero Herrera out on bond
An alleged murderer who in October was transported when he and his wife were found lying in a pool of blood in their residence on 215 Medina, a grisly scene that found 49 year-old mother and former teacher Blanca Herrera dead of multiple stab wounds in the bedroom of the couple's home.
Her husband, Homero Herrera, 61, was also found bleeding from his neck after attempting to take his own life and was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital where he was stabilized enough to be interrogated and formally charged with murder before then being issued a $1.5 million bond by Justice of the Peace Tere Melendrez at the request of District Attorney Roberto Serna.
In an interesting turn of events, Herrera has been set free on bond after Justice of the Peace Jennie Smith placed bail on Herrera at $100,000.00 which he posted on Thursday.
"When Herrera allegedly committed the crime, there was no bond set," stated Sheriff Tom Schmerber, "The next day the District Attorney suggested to place a bond of $1.5 million." Sheriff Schmerber said he was not aware that the bond had been reduced.
Herrera is scheduled to be tried for the murder of his wife in District Court this August.
