Top Five Grads Honored

The Top Five Grads from both CC Winn High School and Eagle Pass High School were fittingly honored at a community breakfast put on as always by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce at the Sirloin Stockade on Wednesday.

Claudia Rodriguez-Wright graciously amceed the event in her traditional light and witty manner with the assistance of Mike Garcia, Sandra Rodriguez, Theo Escobedo and Executive Director Sandra Martinez.

"We're very pleased with the community that came today to recognize and to honor our top students," said Gilbert Gonzalez, "It's amazing how many parents and family we get to come to this event, they appreciate that we facilitate a lot of things for them to be able to do what they do, which is succeed."

When we posed the fact that we are very supportive of our athletic teams such as football and baseball which fill the stands on Friday nights, and that these types of events are the opportunities for our best students to bask in the limelight, Mr. Gonzalez added, "Exactly and again, we're proud of them academically, we're also proud of our athletic program and I encourage the community to come out on Friday night in San Antonio to support our Eagles as they battle the team from Corpus Christi Carroll which will be a tough game, but I think the Eagles are ready."

EPHS Principal Vale Moreno said, "We are extremely proud of all of our students, we are extremely proud of not just their academic achievement but their discipline and their behavior and their courtesy, their respect and I think that is a tribute to all of their parents."

CC Winn High School Principal Jesús Díaz-Wever congratulated the Class of 2014 of Eagle Pass High School as well as Mr. Moreno and his staff for a job well done, "I'd like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for the invitation, I've been doing this for ten years now and it's always very exciting for me to come and showcase our best students."

In a message directed to the parents in his native Spanish, Mr Diaz had the following to add, "<I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and congratulate them for the support you give to our students.  Your advice has not been in vain, you've always made a difference in what your children can achieve in life.  You can see the difference that being involved in your your children's lives and now the results are evident and can be appreciated.>"

Board President Ignacio Saucedo also weighed in on the significance of this and last night's CC Winn Award Ceremony, "It's an amazing thing to see the amount of money that was poured into CC Winn last night, over $650,000, it's a testament to the involvement of our community in the futures of these kids.  It's a pleasant surprise to see that all the top five students from CC Winn are girls and you look at the breakdown a lot of these graduates are staying in the State of Texas.  It shows that Texas' top tier universities really care about our kids."
