On Friday, May 9, 2014,  CTE students from the Eagle Pass FFA competed in the Wintergarden District FFA Public Speaking Contests in Poteet, TX.  These students each had to research, write their own speeches, and memorize them.

At contest, each student had to say their speech in front of a panel of judges, and then answer questions pertaining to their speech.

Shawnee Betancourt competed in the Junior Prepared Public Speaking contest, where she competed against 3 other freshman, and received 2nd place.

Alexis de la Garza competed in the Soil Stewardship Prepared Public Speaking contest and received first place.

Karina Garcia, a freshman, competed against three upper classmen in the Extemporaneous Speaking contest, where you research many topics ahead of time, then at contest, you have 30 minutes to prepare your speech.

In the Prepared Public Speaking contest, we had three individuals competing in separate categories.  Alvaro Guevara won in the Ag Science category.  Dakota Betancourt received first place in Ag Policy.  Bertha Alicia Torres received second place in the Natural Resources competition.

The five students receiving first and seconds place will be advancing on to Area competition on May 15, 2014, in Kingsville at the Area X FFA Convention.

We are very proud of all of their efforts, and would like to wish them luck at the next competition.
