The Eagle Pass Eagles had to battle the elements as well as battling the pesky Harlingen South Hurricanes, and the hurricane was not the issue, the venue was as Tejada Field was too wet to be used and the game had to be moved to the Spring Sports Complex at Burbank.

The problem was that Ben Bolt and Ozona already had the park and the Eagles and Huricanes had to wait, much like the entire city of Eagle Pass had to wait until 11:30 PM in 1988 for the game between the '88 Eagles and the Abilene Cooper Cougars after the State Tournament games that year kept being pushed back at Disch-Flak Stadium.

After Ben Bolt dispatched Ozona 6-0 at about 9:45, it was time to get the field ready for this clash between EP and Harlingen which began at about 10:30 PM after the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles hard fought game against Edinburgh North.

The scoring began for the Eagles in the second inning as Mando Lopez chased Hurricane starter Zach Martinez for a base hit, but Isaac Ramirez tried to bunt him over, but the hurricane defense got the lead runner putting Ramirez at first with one out.

Martinez tried to pick off Ramirez at first, but he overthrew his first baseman allowing Ramirez to move over to third on the errant throw.  This is where standout designated hitter Carlos Barrera made his presence known in this game as he pulled a ground ball to second which allowed the Eagles to plate their first run of the ballgame.

It was in the fourth that Gaona worked his offensive magic once again as he led off the inning with a double followed by a triple down the right field line by Lopez plating Gaona.  Ramirez grounded out to the right side to score Lopez and the Eagles would leave it up to Chris Perez to close out the Hurricanes who were very aggressive at the plate first-pitch swinging and making exceptional contact, but many times right into the hands of Eagle defenders.

It was in the seventh inning that Perez allowed a besrunner to get on that Head Coach Reynol Mendoza pulled the provberbial trigger bringing Gaona in to close out the Hurricanes with one out in the final frame.

Gaona up 3-1 got the first hitter to pop up to big 1-9 Eric Gonzalez at short and the final hitter to ground out to arguably the surest hands in the Eagle lineup, RJ3, Rj Ruiz who ended the game on a 4-6 force out at the second base bag.

For the Eagles Eric Gonzalez was 1 for 3, Diego Gaona was 2 for 3, Mando Lopez went 2 for 3 and Isaac Ramirez went 1 for 3.

The Eagles faced Harlingen at 3:00 PM on Saturday and Tony Galvan was on the hill for the Eagles, but results were not available at press time.
