The campaign took place across the nine county area the Eagle Pass Resident Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration services from Eagle Pass to Del Rio and Laughlin AFB, Uvalde, Utopia and even Brackettville.
One of the most interesting yet alarming bits of information we received in reference to the fact that many times people tend to dispose of their unwanted drugs by flushing them down the toilet which could be the worst thing to do.
"We don't want these over the counter drugs to be recycled into our drinking water," warned Gonzalez, "We're trying to be eco-friendly by properly disposing these OTC drugs." He added that they are sent off to an undisclosed laboratory where they are properly disposed of.
"We really appreciate the positive feedback from our local community, and we definitely thank International Bank of Commerce(IBC) for allowing us to stage outside their business," stated Gonzalez, "It was another great effort this year, and I think the awareness keeps growing, in terms of this Pill Take-back initiative. In the long run, these types of efforts only improve the importance of recycling and the importance of properly disposing of over the counter drugs. Moreover, it minimizes the dangers of our youth experimenting with over the counter drugs."
