Congressman Pete Gallego was in Eagle Pass on Tuesday and he had some choice words for the Silver & Black Attack Band Program who returned after setting a school record of seven consecutive UIL Sweepstakes.

The JV Band also competed for the first time since 2006 and also was awarded Sweepstakes honors.

"Eagle Pass ISD has several impressive schools (not the least of which is Pete Gallego Elementary School). Students at Eagle Pass ISD regularly exceed expectations," stated Gallego.

"Recently, the Memorial Junior High School bands in Eagle Pass took sweepstakes at UIL competition."

"The varsity band received a first place for their seventh consecutive year – the longest streak in the school’s history. "

"The Junior Varsity band had not competed since 2006 and performed for the first time this year. They, too, earned a sweepstakes rating. Congratulations to the band students and their directors, Jorge Vargas and Abel Granados, on a job well done. Go Mavs!"
