Juan Aguilera, of Escamilla & Poneck, LLC of San Antonio, who has been assigned by Commissioner's Court to handle the finances of the Maverick County Water Plant, informed The News Gram of the fact that the county has been approved for a $1,107,000.00 grant to expand the existing plant.

He also stated that the county has been given conditional approval on a $2,028,000.00 loan.

According to Aguilera, the plant has exceeded its capacity and needs to be expanded in order to meet the needs of that area of Maverick County.

Of the $3.1 million project, more than one third will be grant money which does not have to be repaid.

In 1995, the USDA gave Maverick County a grant for $800,000.00 and in 2006, MC received another grant for $1.6 million.

"What I will do is represent them on a legal basis and make sure we have the authority to do this financing to see that it works for the benefit of Maverick County and its citizens," concluded Aguilera.
