Local reserve deputy, former police officer and martial arts instructor Jesse Sanchez passed away on Thursday in his sleep after a long battle with heart disease.

"My career started in 1978 when I first joined the United States Marine Corps as a clerk in the aviation field," stated Sanchez in his final interview with The Eagle Pass News Gram, "After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, I decided to begin my career as a police officer."

Sanchez had the honor and the distinct pleasure of training with both Ed Parker and Ed Parker, Jr. in Los Angeles, the former who was Elvis Presley's personal trainer as well as having trained with Master Ken Lucio of San Jose, California.

His passion for martial arts started at the early age of 15.

"I enjoyed teaching our youth in this community, it gave me great pleasure when I hear parents say that martial arts training has made their children become more disciplined and physically fit and their skills have helped them develop into a more successful student in school."

Jesse is survived by his wife Maria and his children Jesse Jay, Julie and Cindy as well as his parents Ignacio and Julia Sanchez, his sisters Leticia and Dalia and his brothers Marcos, Miguel, Ricardo and Jorge.

Officer Sanchez' services will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday to 9:00 PM, April 11th and funeral services will be on Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 AM at Riojas Funeral Home at 1451 S. Veterans Blvd.
