“This seizure of yet more alleged methamphetamine is consistent with past interceptions of this type of hard narcotic, which appears to be popular with drug smuggling organizations who are attempting to introduce these illicit drugs into our societies,” said Efrain Solis Jr., Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2014 after CBP officers encountered a silver 2004 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 36-year-old male Mexican citizen at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. The traveler presented his Mexican border-crossing card to a CBP officer who ultimately referred him to secondary for further inspection. While inspecting the Tacoma in secondary, officers discovered packages of suspected narcotics concealed within the pickup and subsequently 10 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing approximately 11.21 kilograms (24.71 lbs.) were removed. CBP-OFO seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

CBP-OFO arrested the driver, who was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
