"An engineering firm was hired to do soil testing on the existing strip on CC Winn's property which was not up to par," stated Gonzalez, "But the family provided an alternate site which is the one we are proposing."
The site in question would accessed on an extension of Bob Rodgers Drive which runs between the hospital and the International Center for Trade.
The same soil study was done on the prospective site and it was determined feasible.
"At this point, three things have to be determined," continued Gonzalez, "The feasibility study which we have already done, whether the project is fundable and whether there is support from the business community."
This has also been taken into consideration he says as surveys were conducted with maquiladoras in Piedras Negras, the business sector in Eagle Pass.
"More business is being hauled out of Eagle Pass at this time than the cities of Uvalde, Del Rio and Carrizo Springs combined."
A good sign, Gonzalez concluded, is that county officials and officials from the city will begin working hand in hand to make sure both entities are on the same page to be able to work together on this project as County Judge David Saucedo and County Commissioner Jerry Morales were present at this meeting.
The main source of income of such a facility would be the sale of fuel that would be dispensed here as well as mechanic services, the lease of land on which hangars would be constructed and on contracts with agencies such as the United States Border Patrol and the Department of Public Safety who pay $7,000.00 a month to rent such facilities at the Uvalde Airport.
"The US Border Patrol is presently constructing a $250,000.00 storage facility on Uvalde Municipal Airport property to store their aircraft which if a contract is broken, becomes a part of the airport immediately becoming an asset."
He also said that both TxDoT and the Federal Aviation Administration want to come down and meet with officials to discuss the possibility of this new venture.
