Congressman Gallego helps UPS Delivery Team for a day
A.D. Ibarra
-Eagle Pass
US Congressman was in Eagle Pass on Friday undertaking a very different task, a task not many a legislator has been seen actually taking on.
Gallego donned the ever-popular brown uniform of United Parcel and became a UPS delivery man for a day in an effort to celebrate small business, which is considered the backbone of this great nation as well as to motivate the parcel conglomerate to establish a bigger presence in our growing city.
Maverick County is one of the counties in Texas with the brightest future in terms of economic prosperity due to the recent energy reform in our neighboring country of Mexico which, if UPS were to build a larger distribution center here, could mean a significant amount of jobs for Eagle Passans.
The congressman's efforts to see what UPS delivery personnel have to deal with on a daily basis is new to our nationally elected officials as he is only the second to do so, however it reminds us of the time when then San Antonio City Councilman Henry Cisneros who, in order to gauge the pay increase trash collectors were requesting, he reported to work one day and spent a day with them before supporting that pay increase.
