Procedures are underway for the hopeful approval of a project which will connect Second Street to Encino Park which will be called Town Square Blvd.

Erica Bustamante, Community Development Planner for the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, informed The News Gram that the application for the proposed Green Road in Eagle Pass has been turned in to the Economic Development Administration.  She said it will take 30-60 days before any official word comes down as Eagle Pass is competing in the Austin Regional Office against projects across Texas and in states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.

"It would be a partial grant in which Eagle Pass can qualify for up to 80% based on the per capita income which is 50.04%," stated Bustamante.

Per capita is in fact income per person, a figure indicating the main income of the people in an economic unit, in this case The City of Eagle Pass.  She also said that this is calculated by dividing the total income by the official population of our city which is 26,899 as of the 2010-2012  American Community Survey with a three year estimate.

Bustamante also gave us the official population for Maverick County which is listed at 54,970 which includes all incorporated colonias and our distress level is 51.04% as compared to the US average income of $43,735.00.  Maverick County's per capita income is $22,324.00.

Bustamante and her grant writing team of Johnny Ruiz and Leodoro Martinez are hoping that EDA informs them that the application will be accepted for further consideration in order for the project to come to fruition.
