A new day for athletics in Eagle Pass has come as both Eagle Pass High School Eagles and the CC Winn High School Mavericks embark on a new journey, a new adventure in athletics and academics, one we have not seen since the early 80's and mid 90's when Eagle Pass was in the same district with San Antonio John Jay, Holmes, Marshall, Clark, and later O'Connor and Taft. Biennial reclassification went down on Monday, February 3rd in Austin as athletic directors attended the University Interscholastic League's latest re-alignment sessions which left Eagle Pass High School in a six school district in the new AAAAAA classification with the Laredo United Longhorns, the Alexander Bulldogs, the United South Panthers, the Del Rio Rams, former Eagle Head Coach Oki Villaseñor's LBJ Wolves and Coach Tom Gonzalez' Eagle Pass Eagles in what is now 29-AAAAAA.

The landscape has changed significantly for CC Winn High School as they have moved into District 29-AAAAA, formerly District 29-AAAA with the Medina Valley Panthers, the San Antonio Southside Cardinals, the Somerset Bulldogs, the Uvalde Coyotes, former District 29-AAAAA foes and former Maverick Head Coach David Charles' Laredo Martin Tigers, the Nixon Mustangs, the Cigarroa Toros and the Coach Eric Villaseñor's CC Winn Mavericks. According to information received in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 UIL Biennial Reclassification Packet, football Schools may play their first game no earlier than August 28, 2014.

A proposal passed by the Legislative Council in October 2013 allows sub-varsity football teams in Conferences 5A and 6A to play on Wednesday during week 1 (previously termed zero-week) only if the varsity team plays on Thursday of that same week. UIL Biennial Reclassification Data 2014-2015 & 2015-2016 6A 2100 & up 5A 1060-2099 4A 465-1059 Teams of note going from 6A to 5A: Abilene Cooper, Brownsville Pace, Brownsville Porter, Bryan, College Station A&M Consolidated, Donna, Eagle Pass Winn, El Paso Bel Air, Fort Bend Bush, Fort Bend Elkins, Grapevine, Houston Madison, Longview, Lufkin, Mansfield Timberview, McKinney, Mission Sharyland, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, Rockwall-Heath, San Marcos, South Garland, Temple Schools new to 5A: Donna North, Frisco Independence and Mission Sharyland Pioneer.
