In a formal ceremony attended by a large group of law enforcement professionals which included all three lieutenants in their dress blues, Lt. Aldo Escamilla, Lt. Alejandro Guedea and Lt. Moses Peña, newly appointed Chief Alberto Guajardo took his oath of office before family, friends, the news media and everyone who is anyone in local, state, federal and area law enforcement.

"Good leaders are hard to find," stated City Manager Gloria Barrientos, "We must make every effort to keep people interested, motivated and dedicated.  I have no doubt that Chief Guajardo is up to that task."

Over the last few days, I've had the opportunity to hear and listen," stated The Honorable ramsey English-Cantú, Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass, "And to overall see the vision and the goals Chief Guajardo has for this department."

"I thank God for this opportunity to serve my community," said Guajardo who recalls being extremely proud of his father who also served the Eagle Pass Police Deapartment many years ago, and the pride he had in shining his father's shoes every day before he went to work, not knowing that the future also held a place for him in the law enforcement field as his brothers, one an ICE Agent, another a State Trooper and still his twin brother a Chief Probation Officer, "I want to thank the City Manager, City Council and our Mayor for having the trust in me to do this job."

The new chief recalled the long hours and the sacrifices he made to see this dream of his to fruition which included leaving a lucrative job with AEP/CPL to pursue his degree in law enforcement.

"In 2002, when I came on board as an officer, I had a vision that I was in uniform like my father and brothers.  I will uphold this position.  I will never dishonor this badge.  I admire our officers, there will be changes, but they will all be for the benefit of this community."

The Eagle Pass News Gram salutes Chief Guajardo and his family and wishes him Godspeed and Good luck in this highly beneficial endeavor as he embarks on his latest professional journey.
