Item 25 on the list of Regular Agenda Items of the Regular Meeting of Maverick County Commissioner's Court on Tuesday was discussion and possible action to adopt policy regarding issues when connecting utilities in the County was brought up by Commissioner Gerardo Morales who explained that citizens take advantage of the $275.00 fee charged by the county to connect utilities. Some take it upon themselves to break a sidewalk or dig into a street to connect their homes, ask the county where they needed to go to pay their fee and then the county would have to deal with repairing the damage which in Morales'opinion costs much more than the $275.00. When discussion began, it was mentioned that the city charges an $800.00 fee for the same service.

The County is considering raising the fee to $1,000.00. David Gutierrez, who works with the Road & Bridge Department stated that they (He and Ernesto Guevara) had looked into this and Eagle Pass Water Works Director Jorge Barrera mentioned that any changes to the policy had to be made on the county's end and had to do so one step at a time. "When you break a curb or make a driveway, requirements are suggested," closed Gutierrez, "The fee needs to be compatible with the city's and this is what we've come up with. The other item of interest on the agenda was the filling of the board member vacancy at the Maverick County Water Control & Improvement District which was tabled in order to allow all commissioners to be present as Commissioner Robert Ruiz, who had an unfortunate death in the family, was unable to attend. The other item which was of much interest was an update by Southwestern Capital Markets, Inc. on the Public Facilities Corporation (PFC) Detention Center and possible options for Maverick County, but Financial Advisor Robert Rodriguez was also unable to attend the meeting.
