When the issue came up which in their estimation, this person could be in charge of setting job responsibilities as well in evaluating county employees' performances, commissioners were in agreement such a person would aid the county in its day to day activities.
Another point of interest to at least one of the commissioners was the issue of the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority and how funds from the facility are coming in and what the procedure would be for the county to re-obtain millions of dollars which were invested by the county to assist in the creation of the soon to be self reliant entity.
Commissioner Robert Ruiz asked County Auditor Fidencio Ortiz what the initial investment was by Maverick County to get the project off the ground to which Ortiz replied was in the range of $8.5 million. Ruiz then asked and was answered by County Judge David Saucedo that the landfill is indeed providing over a million dollars a year to aid in reducing the county's debt.
Another observation which may not have been brought up at the meeting was the fact that the landfill is indeed working to the county's benefit to reduce the amount of money owed to the City of Eagle Pass for the many services they provide such as ambulance and the fire department each year.
