A large gathering of businessmen from the hugely lucrative endeavor that is the Eagle Ford Shale Project welcomed US Senator John Cornyn to Crystal City's beautiful Double C Resort on Thursday where a highly informative roundtable was held in order for local citizens to come and give the senator a brief rundown of the progress and concerns of the region. Owner Jeff Myers of the Double C Resort opened the festivities stating that there are plans to create a training facility by which recent high school graduates can receive the necessary training in order to flow right into six figure jobs in the project as there is a huge demand for skilled labor in and around the South Texas area. Jimmy Lopez, Charman of the Carrizo Springs Chamber of Commerce was highly enthusiastic about the comings and goings of the project as they very well should be in direct reaction to the economic development they have seen in the last two years saying that they are presently in a reactionary phase in terms of housing and water. "If you look at the numbers, this project will be around for a while, just look around. There are challenges," stated Carrizo's highest ranking elected official, "Decisions TxDoT is making are affecting everything we do. We need to know how much water is available, health issues, hospitals, housing... if we keep that vision, that will affect longevity."

The roundtable began and the issue of our children being able to start their own businesses which can benefit from the boom. "For us, it's a transformation in terms of the economic impact we see," he concluded before giving the floor to Omar Garcia, President of the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable. "In terms of the number of jobs, hotels, capital expenditures, it's a phenomenal time to live in South Texas. We're here to work with landowners. If Mexico opens up it will be incredible," stated the visionary leader of STEER referring to energy reform in Mexico which if opened will duplicate or triplicate the amount of revenues seen in this region which plans to branch out into Eagle Pass, Laredo and Del Rio. This reporter informed the gathering that our fair city is showing the benefits of this progress in many ways and is beginning to emulate our sister city of Laredo when they had only three high schools in the eighties and now boast seven and MRGDC's Johnny Ruiz was also on hand to represent our city at this gathering. Other dignitaries included Uvalde Mayor J Allen Carnes who informed The Eagle Pass News Gram of his freshly launched campaign for Texas Agriculture Commissioner and whose Press Secretary, Cathy Conley graciously allowed us a moment to interview the candidate as did KSAT 12 news reporter David Sears. Stay tuned to next weeks editions of your Eagle Pass News Gram for our exclusive interview with Carnes. This reporter would also like to extend special thanks to Jessica Sandlin for once again giving us the heads up on the illustrious event and allowing the official newspaper of Eagle Pass to document the gathering for prosperity and to inform our readers of Senator Cornyn's view and expert opinion on key issues. Leodoro Martinez, Executive Director of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Carrizo Springs Mayor Adrian De Leon, Jose Lopez, Executive Director of the Crystal City Housing Authority and his similar from Carrizo Srings, Alfredo Castañeda, Norbert Rodriguez, Superintendent of the Carrizo Springs ISD, Paula Seydel of the Carrizo Springs Chamber of Commerce and Dimmitt County Sheriff Marlon Boyd were other dignitaries on hand at the roundtable session along with many a representative of the many companies working in and around the South Texas region. "Because of this it is important that our leaders know what the demands are. We need our people to be a part of making significant management decisions in the very near future," concluded Garcia before informing the gathering of a very important summit which will be held in Corpus Christi in October. The Honorable U.S. District Judge Diana Saldaña, Southern District of Texas was also on hand as well as Dimmitt County Commissioner Mike Uriegas who had serious infrastructure concerns, "We have big challenges in reference to roads and highways as TxDoT wants us to tear up roads." This is when our leader took the podium stating, "These issues are high on our list of priorities. The controversy to make gravel roads as opposed to paved roads. We don't have much influence out of session, but it is a major problem is that funding comes from gas tax. Texas gets 92 cents back for every dollar. The problem lies in that we only have two representatives in congress just as every other state in the Union including the little states. Little States gang up on big states for funding, but we will work to make sure this gets addressed."
