He added that their job is to evaluate all properties and monitor the sales of properties in order to accurately appraise all homes and properties in time, which is an on-going process and comply with state regulations set forth by the State Comptroller's Office. "They will be down in Eagle Pass to look at our appraisal plan," Perry mentioned alluding to the fact that they are closely monitored in this system of properly assessing and setting these values, "People see this process as a negative thing, before, our parents and grandparents knew what the value of their property meant and they wanted their property to be valued higher in order to feel comfortable about leaving something behind for their children when they were gone, now people are more concerned with the taxes they will be paying." He advises citizens to take a proactive approach to attending the meetings of these entities in order for their voices to be heard when it matters the most, on tax rate setting time in September when they set the rates for the new year. For instance, the county has raised their rate an unprecedented .18 over the last two years, something never before seen in Eagle Pass and very few people were there to protest this. Perry stated that the new values will definitely mean significant amounts of revenues in comparison to 2012 because of this, therefore, they should be able to cover their needs based on the amounts received last year and could give the taxpayers of Eagle Pass what would be a much welcomed break by dropping rates this coming fiscal year. According to a comparison of last year's revenues, the City of Eagle Pass at a rate of .46/$100 of value will gain $433,236.15 this coming year. Maverick County will gain $1,180,853.87 at their present rate of .58/$100 of value. The Hospital District will gain $141, 540.37 at .07/$100 of value and The EPISD stands to gain $2,294,209.56 at their present, the highest rate of all taxing entities at $1.15929/$100 of value.

Victor Perry Director of the Maverick County Appraisal District, informed The News Gram that the appraisal district has certified the property values after having heard all protests and after having heard all of these cases over a two-month period. "The totals have been certified by the Appraisal Review Board and have been forwarded to local taxing entities on July 12th," stated Perry, "This is done at this time in order for them to be able to set their tax rates as most if not all of these entities are in the midst of the budget process at this time."
